Carl Emile Paul Lincke (1866 - 1846) Was a German Composer and Theatre Conductor, Who Held The Same Ranks Of Importance To Berlin as Johannes Strauss Was To Vienna, and Jacques Offenbach Was To Paris. In Fact, He Is Considered To Be 'The Father Of The Berlin Operetta'. His Works Include The Aria March "Berliner Luft" (Berlin Air In English) From His Operetta' Frau Luna' (Mrs Moon), a Song That Is Performed By The Berlin Philharmonic as One Of Their Traditional Encores and Is an Unofficial anthem Of Berlin and "Das Gluhwurmchen" Or "The Glow Worm" From His Operetta 'Lysistrata' Which Is The Recording Noted above. Interestingly, after Completing Secondary School, His Mother Sent Him To The Town Of Wittenberg To Nurture His affinity Towards Military Music. There, He Joined The Wittenberg City Band. Not Only Was He Trained as a Bassoonist, But He also Learned How To Play The Drums, Piano, Violin, and Tenor Horn.
