Jim Beam is a brand of Bourbon Whiskey founded in Clermont, Kentucky. During the late 18th century, some members of the Böhm family emigrated to the US from Germany, and changed the spelling of their surname to "Beam". They settled in Kentucky, and starting with Johannes Reginald Beam (1770-1834), they began the production of a type of whiskey which eventually became known as Bourbon. Back then, the distillery they had was nicknamed 'The Old Tub', and the Whiskey was first called 'Old Jake Beam Sour Mash'. Since 1795 though, when the first barrels of Corn Whiskey was sold (only interrupted by Prohibition), seven generations of the Beam family have been involved in its making and marketing. For example, in order to take advantage of railroad network expansion into connecting States, David M. Beam (1833-1913) moved the distillery to Nelson County in 1854. However, James Beauregard Beam (1864-1947) moved the company back to Clermont in 1933 from Nelson County and rebuilt the distillery there and the business after the end of prohibition. Then in 1935, the James B. Beam Distilling Company was founded by Jeremiah Beam, H. Blum, Oliver Jacobson, and Harry L. Homel in his honour, and the Whiskey was renamed 'Jim Beam Bourbon'. Some bottles even bore his signature alongside this statement, "None Genuine Without My Signature". Previously produced by the Beam family and later owned by the Fortune Brands Holding Company, the brand was purchased by Suntory Holdings of Osaka Japan in 2014.
