Hard Cover Novel, "The Godfather," 1st Edtion By Mario Puzo.

Published in 1969 by G.P. Putnam. Born in the 'Hell's Kitchen' area of New York to a family of poor Neapolitan Immigrants, Mario Puzo drew his inspiration heavily from those very circumstances he inherited into his novels. After graduating from City College, he joined the Army Air Forces in WW2. He wasn't allowed into combat duties since his eyesight was poor so he was stationed in Germany as a Public Relations Officer. After the War, during the period of the '50s and early 60's he wrote his first book 'The Dark Arena' and was a writer/editor for publisher Martin Goodman's Magazine Management Company. It was these years as a pulp journalist, that lead him to write the God Father, after hearing anecdotes about Mafia Organizations. His main goal in writing it was to make money and to produce something that would appeal to a wide audience. It became a New York Times bestseller for months, was later developed into an Oscar-winning film which spawned off a film series and other related films, t.v. series and more laid a foundation for that genre and helped launch careers of many famous actors.
